Searching for Martin Luther

Who is this man who changed the world around 500 years ago? This question is something that interests me and I decide to dig deep, find out about him and try to walk in his footsteps.

In 2017 there will be a celebration for the 500 year anniversary of the Reformation. The Reformation, meaning the reformation of the church started when Martin Luther proposed 95 theses and fixed those to the castle church in Wittenberg on October 31. of 1517. This action changed the history of the church - and the world - forever.

Martin lived in Germany and was a professor of theology, monk, composer, priest, and he was driven by the question what he could do to lead a life that was pleasing to God.

His theology was challenging the Roman Catholic Church as he was preaching the salvation is not earned by good deeds, but are received as the free gift of God's grace trough the believer's faith in Jesus Christ as savior. One of Luther's great achievements was the translation of the Bible into the German language. That way God's word was accessible to the common people and not only to the priests who were able to understand Latin. In honor of this great undertaking now, 500 years later, there was a new bible translation in German available at the end of October 2016 that has been revised and commented. We already ordered it as we are fluent in German.
